Sikkim declares Year 2010 as Sikkim Tourism Year

Sikkim Tourism Department has declared 2010 as the state’s ‘Year of Tourism’. They have planned 13 tourism festivals from April 2010 to April 2011, with an objective to reinforce the image of Sikkim as a premier tourism destination besides strengthening the village tourism in the State. The Government also seeks a 30% tourism increase in 2010. The 2010 year will be signed off with a grand New Year celebration in January 2011.

In the first issue of the newsletter we had mentioned how all other travel show organizers including new and established players wanted to join the bandwagon by placing their events dangerously close to TTF&OTM in Delhi and Mumbai. Now we hear one of these– MITE seems to be off the radar. This may well be bad omen for new shows launched in the first quarter or 2010.

In our view, proactive self-regulation and consolidation is called for. We shall be open for any dialogue in this direction.
