Ministry of Tourism promotes Caravan Tourism from TTF platform

Tourism Secretary of India, Sujit Banerjee revealed plans for Caravan Tourism during TTF & OTM Kolkata in August 2009. Subsequently a comprehensive “Caravan Tourism Policy” was announced in September 2009, as part of the Government’s 100-day agenda, and the Ministry of Tourism’s initiatives for creating accommodation facilities for the Commonwealth Games 2010. The Secretary Tourism recognized the contribution of TTF & OTM in conceiving the idea of ‘Caravan Tourism’ to solve the problem of overbooked hotels and lodging during peak season. The Tourism Secretary stated that India could not afford to take incremental steps and instead, should plan quantum jumps to build caravan tourism infrastructure like rest areas, parking, sanitary facilities, water supply and even Wi-Fi, similar to Caravan Parks in the west.
